getting started

Overview

Our staff is available Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM to discuss our counseling services and get you started with a counselor. A caring and compassionate member of our staff will gather information about you in order to assign you to a counselor who meets your needs and schedule. We will ask you for the following information during your initial phone call:

  • Your name, spouse’s name (if applicable), date of birth, address, and phone number
  • How you found out about Samaritan
  • Your reasons for seeking counseling – this helps us match you with the most appropriate counselor
  • Your insurance information, if you have insurance. Please have your card ready.
  • The best days and times for appointments, as well as which location you would prefer

Samaritan also serves as a training facility for graduate students who are studying to be therapists. We will ask you if a graduate student can observe your session, and in some cases, whether they can serve as your counselor. This is an important part of the work of Samaritan, but you are welcome to say “no” if you are not comfortable.

Once we gather your information, a director or supervisor will assign you to one of our counselors, who will contact you directly to set up your first appointment. All scheduling is done through the therapists, as they keep their own schedules. Prior to your first appointment, you will be asked to fill out informational forms. If you would like to fill these forms out prior to your first appointment, please visit our Information Form page to download them. Otherwise, you will need to arrive 10-15 minutes early to your first appointment.
