FAQ

Does the Samaritan Counseling Center accept my insurance?

Samaritan accepts many major health insurance providers, including Highmark and UPMC. For more information regarding your benefits, co-pays, and therapist availability, please contact our office at 412.741.7430. If we do not accept your insurance plan, we do offer a sliding scale rate which is adjusted based on your household income.

What types of counseling does the Samaritan Counseling Center offer?

We offer counseling for individuals, couples (married and not married), adolescents and children. With a staff of 16 therapists, we are able to match you with a therapist who meets your counseling needs.

What are your hours for counseling services?

When you contact our office, you will be matched with a therapist who will contact you directly to set up an appointment. Our therapists keep their own schedules based on their availability and the availability of their clients. We will do our best to match you with a counselor who can see you during your free time.

I don’t have insurance. How can I afford counseling?

Through the generous donations of foundations, community partners, churches, and individuals, we have three funds available to subsidize counseling fees: the Silent Samaritan Fund, the Client Aid Fund, and the Youth Fund. Your counselor will provide you with detailed information about how these funds might be used to adjust your fee based on your household income.

What religion is the Samaritan Counseling Center affiliated with?

The Samaritan Counseling Center is an ecumenical non-profit corporation and is not affiliated with any specific religion. Our counselors are trained to counsel within the context of each person’s religious tradition and no attempt will ever be made to impose a particular belief system.

I believe that my depression requires medication, in addition to therapy. Can you help?

While the Samaritan Counseling Center does have a staff psychiatrist available for consultations, we do not provide psychiatric services at our Centers. Our therapists can, however, work with your Primary Care Physician or refer you to a trusted psychiatrist should you need to seek medical advice.

Do you have counselors that specialize in substance abuse/addiction?

While our counselors are experienced dealing with a wide variety of issues, we recommend that a person with an addiction seek help from addiction specialists prior to receiving counseling services. Please see our “Links” page for information about addiction specialists in the Western Pennsylvania region.
