Dr. Susan Packard joined us in the summer of 2022 where she sees clients via teletherapy or in-person at our Erie office. She has extensive work experience in the fields of addictions treatment, corrections, community based mental health, and counselor education. Following an 11-year career as a case manager/therapist delivering inpatient/outpatient treatment for adults affected by addiction, she returned to school and earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the State University of New York at Buffalo. For over 20 years, she served as Professor and Coordinator of the Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Edinboro University. She was granted emeritus status in 2022.

 

During the first 5 years of her teaching career, Dr. Packard worked concurrently as a psychologist at a facility providing outpatient therapy for adults, with a focus on treatment of depression, anxiety, trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and eating disorders. She also has experience working for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections at a community corrections center (halfway house) for women and at the State Correctional Facility at Graterford in the psychological services department.

 

Among her credentials, Dr. Packard is a licensed psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), and Master Addictions Counselor (MAC). She holds memberships in many national- and state-level professional organizations, including the American Counseling Association (ACA), the American Psychological Association (APA), the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association (ARCA), and the Pennsylvania Psychological Association (PPA). Dr. Packard is an active member of Chi Sigma Iota (international and professional academic honor society) and served as Chapter Faculty Advisor for Edinboro University’s Epsilon Chi Chapter (2014-2022).

 

Dr. Packard’s extracurricular activities include Board of Governors (BOG) member for the Erie Philharmonic, deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, cycling, and photography. She enjoys walks with her husband and golden retriever (Dougal) and attending movies.
