Rev. Susan Rothenberg
Co-Founder and Instructor of Unglued Church
Rev. Susan Rothenberg is an at-large member of Pittsburgh Presbytery. Formerly, she has served as pastor to a small church in Pittsburgh, and currently co-moderates the presbytery’s Commission on Ministry. She also serves as a consultant for PneuMatrix (with Rev. Jim Kitchens and Rev. Deborah Wright), helping congregations develop adaptive change leadership skills and capacity for church transformation in post-Christendom.
Susan joined our staff in 2022 and serves as one of the instructors of the Unglued Church program which she and Rev. Sarah Robbins co-founded in 2013. Susan and Sarah have partnered with churches in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware to help them address their challenges, deeply examine their ministries, and get to know the needs and the people of the communities they serve. They continue to empower churches to develop new strategies to keep moving forward as they implement Unglued Church through Samaritan's Caring for Clergy and Congregations program.
Prior to entering ordained ministry, she worked in marketing, advertising, and public relations for companies in Baltimore and Pittsburgh.
Susan writes regularly for Presbyterians Today magazine, as well as Presbyterian Mission Agency’s blog, “One Church, Many Voices.” Mostly, she writes about faith issues, but sometimes veers into politics, kids, baseball, and life’s absurdities. She preaches regularly and leads retreats and workshops.
Susan has been married for more than 30 years and has two children.
