What Does It Mean to "Light the Path?"

People suffering from hidden wounds feel like they're living in darkness.

Anxiety, depression, and numerous other mental health disorders manifest themselves internally, deeply affecting a person's ability to function. Without treatment, a person finds it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to heal. They find themselves sinking further into a dark place in their minds, a dark, empty place without hope.

Lisa Found Light

“When I learned that there was help for me, it was like a bright light had shone on me for the first time in my life."

“I always felt there was something wrong with me, that I was different from other kids. Fun was for other kids. Trying new things was for other kids. Growing up and living a good life was for other kids. I was convinced that my being born had been a mistake, so every time something bad happened, I believed it was because I was defective and it was meant to be. Even as a young person of faith, I believed this to be true.

“I had no idea that what was destroying me inside had a name: major depression. I found out that it was a mental disorder that millions of people struggled with. Both kids and adults were feeling the same things I’d felt: fear, unworthiness, shame, hopelessness—a desire to die.

“When I learned that there was help for me, it was like a bright light had shone on me for the first time in my life. I got the help that I needed to heal, and keep from stumbling back into darkness. By getting healthy, I discovered the strengths and gifts that I’d always been blessed with. Not only did I make changes in myself, but I continually strive to impact the lives of others.”   – “Lisa”
