"Clients often come to me at a time when circumstances seem overwhelming and they lack the resources to cope.  I partner with them and share my resources, experience, and training.  And when they do the work and are better equipped to meet life’s challenges, they’ve become their own therapists – and that’s my goal."

- Tom Kneier

Tom’s career has traversed a broad and diverse landscape including professional counseling, pastoral ministry, higher education administration, and social services, particularly for the homeless population.  His therapeutic experience has ranged from family systems to geriatric counseling, and included work in both a general practice and a psychiatric private practice.

Having earned his B.A. in Psychology and M.A. in Counseling from Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio, Tom held his LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor) in the State of Ohio for 20 years, his NCC (National Certified Counselor) for 17 years, and has held his LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania since 2006.  In addition to Tom's broad range of skills as a therapist, he is also a nationally certified anger management specialist who provides both individual and group therapy. Furthermore, he is a qualified administrator for the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Clifton Strengths Finder, both of which are valuable in areas such as career counseling, job transitions, and couples counseling.

As a father of seven and a grandfather of sixteen, Tom adds the wisdom that comes from life experience and valuable lessons learned especially from inevitable mistakes. Tom has compassionately served clients at Samaritan for years, offering his services in person and via teletherapy.
